Data transmission and storage requirements continue to increase rapidly for today's leading global enterprises. Many of these organizations' data centers are already running 10-Gbit/sec Ethernet in their backbones. Technological developments and trends such as advanced server technologies and link aggregation are creating the need for connectivity even faster than 10-Gbits/sec. This presentation, produced by ADC, will provide an overview of the technological developments driving 40- and 100-GbE development, look at the progress being made on the IEEE 802.3ba specifications, and specifically focus on the optical media and its connectivity that will enable 40- and 100-GbE transmission, while maximizing overall facility efficiency in areas of power consumption and heat dissipation.
